How to Make a Flax Egg
As a vegan chef + baker, I find it key to know how to make a flax egg. Almost all of my baked goods include flax egg as the binder.
It takes a few minutes to make and is an incredibly simple process.
How to Make a Flax Egg
You’ll need water + ground flax seed. Make sure it is ground flax seed. You can purchase ground flaxseed on The Plant Based Palette Shop here. Thoroughly mix 1 Tbsp of ground flax with 1 1/2 Tbsp of water. Let it sit for 5 minutes or until a thickened consistency.
Health Benefit of Flax
Flax contains Omega-3 essential fatty acids, the “good” fats. One tablespoon of ground flaxseed contains about 1.8 grams of plant omega-3s. This supports a healthy heart.
They also contain Lignans, which have plant estrogen. Flaxseed contains 75 to 800 times more lignans than other plant foods according to WebMD. For this very reason, I focus heavily on implementing flaxseed into my diet during my menstrual + follicular phase. More about seed cycling on a later post.
As you can see there’s many benefits to incorporating flax egg and flax in general in your diet. My guess is that you’re probably here because you’re trying to include it into a vegan baked dessert.
